If there’s one thing that you need to make sure you do when visiting San Diego, it’s to eat quality Mexican food. Since it’s so close to the Mexico border, you can find some of the best Mexican food in all of California.
Even though San Diego has a plethora of delicious restaurants right in the heart of downtown, the hidden gem is settled just outside hustle and bustle. In the neighborhood of Barrio Logan sits Las Cuatro Milpas, a locally owned restaurant with picnic-style decor. They offer tamales, burritos, tacos, chorizo and rice and beans along with a small selection of beverages. Don’t be fooled; even though the menu is small, the line to eat is always out the door and down the block!
Once you wind your way through the line and make it to the counter, they are ready to take your order. By the time you move along the counter to the register, they are already bringing your food to you! As a side note, they even make all of the tortillas on the spot. Now, I may be a Mexican food snob, but their homemade tortillas are so better than any store-bought!
It really is the perfect lunch spot! Just make sure you bring cash, as they do not accept card. Enjoy!
